It’s the way of the road, bud. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn’t. This time she didn’t go. It’s the way of the road.” This is a phrase spoken by Ray in season five of Trailer Park Boys. Throughout the series, Ray constantly tells the boys that things happen because “it’s the way of the road.” This single phrase has a very deep meaning in the big picture of the show. While at first glance it seems more like drunken advice than anything, it actually holds a lot of deep and insightful truth. The meaning of the phrase is that both good and bad things happen in life and sometimes we can’t control when or if they happen. This single piece of advice has helped Bubbles, Ricky and Julian greatly throughout the show and continues to be a huge part of Ray’s legacy after his “death.” It’s a phrase that will forever be entwined in Trailer Park Boys.
